Student  Robotics Competition in Valka

On the 4th and 5th of March, 2017, the FIRST LEGO League robotics competition will be held in Valka, which will bring together around 200 young people from different Latvian schools.

For the fourth year, teams of students aged 9 to 16 from Latvia’s school will participate in the FIRST LEGO League to compete for the championship cup. After several weeks of preparation, the young people will demonstrate their abilities to build and program “LEGO MINDSTORMS” robots, present their knowledge of modern science problems, and prove that their team is able to work together. Every year new science theme is announced internationally, which encourages students to explore the modern scientific problems. This year the theme is ANIMAL ALLIES, in which students must explore the interaction between humans and animals.

The FIRST LEGO League program aims to inspire young people to explore sectors such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics, as well as develop their knowledge and skills. This program has competitions organized in more than 80 countries, and involves 25,000 teams. Latvian competition winners are given the opportunity to participate in the European Open Championship.

The competition is organized by the Latvian organization "FIRST LEGO League Latvia" in collaboration with the Valka District Council and SIA Robotiem.
