The 19th Latvian Folk Music festival will be celebrated in Valka

On 28th and 29th of May, 2016, all folk music ensembles and rural chapels from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Belarus will gather in Valka to participate in the 19th Latvian folk music festival. This time, the ambitious festival is called “Let’s make a dance in Valka!”.

 

On the weekend participants will delight all visitors with an acoustic folk music on stages in Valka and Valga, but on Sunday at 17:00, the Grand concert “Let’s make a dance in Valka!” will be held in the Open Air Stage in Valka. The concert will be enriched by the dance group “Dzirnas”, Valka gymnasium youth dance group “Vendīgs” and Smiltene Children and youth education center dance group “Dadzīši”. The concert's main theme will be the journey through centuries of the modern museum mysterious collections.

 

The Festival’s creative team consists of instrumental folk music expert Ilmars Pumpurs, choreographers Agris Daņiļevičs and Dagmara Leja, dance group leader Māra Leja and Vineta Skutāne, as well as the producer Aivars Ikšelis and stage designer Ivars Noviks.

The XIX Latvian Folk Music festival is organized by Valka Municipality Council in collaboration with the Latvian National Cultural Centre and instrumental folk music expert Ilmārs Pumpurs.
